The session fee reserves your date on the Valerie Kay Photography | Austin Newborn Photography schedule. It is non-refundable. Unless otherwise stated, your session fee does not include any prints, products or digital images. If your session fee includes a "package credit" this is applied towards your image package purchase.

All images will be hand-retouched to Studio STANDARDS.

It includes exclusive access to the studio wardrobe and props.

It includes the planning of your session and the time and talent of the photographer and her assistants.

It secures you a date on our schedule. Our schedule typically books out months in advance, and since we need dates available to accommodate our Belly To Baby clients, we have to leave dates open to allow for flexibility in scheduling newborn sessions. We can usually accommodate last minute bookings, we suggest you book EARLY in your second trimester.

The best time to schedule your maternity session really depends on YOU. We will accentuate your bump with posing and wardrobe, but we want you to be as comfortable with your pregnant shape as possible for your session with Austin Maternity Photography.

Typically, we suggest our maternity session clients to schedule their maternity session in or around week 27 through week 34. This should be a period where your belly is nicely defined and you are still somewhat comfortable. Often, in that last month expectant mothers will become uncomfortable, feel more bloated, you may start to develop some of the facial changes that occasionally happen to us as we get closer to our due date.

We suggest you book your session AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE. Our schedule does fill up and we have to turn away clients. We hate to do this, but we can only accommodate 8-10 sessions a month. We suggest at the end of your first trimester or early in your second trimester to secure a date on our calendar.

Please be aware, our schedule typically books out 2-3 months at a time. While we can sometimes accommodate last minute bookings, often we cannot.

YES! We are pleased to offer wardrobe for moms-to-be, new mothers, babies of all ages, and little girls. For your partner or young boys that might be participating in your sessions we suggest dark jeans or khakis and neutral shirts. When choosing we prefer cream/oatmeal instead of white and grays instead of black. If in doubt drop us an email and we'll help you decide what would be best for you Maternity Session and Newborn Session.


Our studio closet is filled with gorgeous fabrics, headpieces, maternity dresses, couture maternity gowns, sheer capes, maternity robes of tulle, and so many more pieces. As one of Austin's best maternity portrait studios, we keep our maternity gown options up to date. Some of our favorite dresses for maternity sessions come from Sew Trendy Accessories, Mii Estilo, Katharina Hakaj Couture, and Silk Fairies.

The only things you need to bring are suitable undergarments and any outfits that we do not supply. (If you want the jeans and a crop top look, we do not provide jeans these will need to be brought from home)

Undergarment suggestions: NUDE and/or black strapless bra.
NUDE and/or black simple thong or underwear.

We don't recommend maternity shapewear as they do typically create visible lines.

Professional hair and makeup is an additional service that you can add-on to your session. It is $150 and paid directly to our HUMA at the time of service. If booking hair and makeup at our studio your session start time will be 10:00 a.m..

Our turnaround time is typically 3-4 weeks. We'll present you with a gallery of images to choose from. We do this together, at the studio. Your gallery reveal is where you'll place your Maternity Session and Newborn Session orders.

We'll look at our product offerings and discuss how you want to display your images from your Maternity Session and Newborn Session. We are full-service portrait studio. Your sessions will be designed to create beautiful art for you do display in your home.

Currently we are not booking outdoor sessions. Our focus is Fine Art, MODERN MATERNITY created in the studio. However, depending on season, we may take requests on a case by case basis.

When we do allow outdoor sessions we NEVER photograph outdoors in the summer once the temps are above 85 or in the coldest winter months. This is because when you FEEL UNCOMFORTABLY HOT OR COLD you also LOOK UNCOMFORTABLE. Looking uncomfortable does not look great in photos. Not to mention the safety issues, especially in our Central Texas Summers.
